Morris made the hole-in-one on Prestwick’s 152-metre par three 8th, en route to claiming his second successive Open Championship title.
The shot helped him to a 12-hole first round of 50, which he would follow with rounds of 55 and 52, for a total of 157 and a victory margin of 11 shots—the third highest victory margin ever, behind his 1870 margin of 12 shots and his father’s 1862 margin of 13 shots.
