The countdown to the 2022 US PGA Championship is underway with less than a month to go.
This year is the 106th edition of the esteemed competition and will be held at the iconic Southern Hills Championship Course in Oklahoma. The tournament will field 156 players from the 19th to the 22nd of May. Last year saw Phil Mickelson walk away as the champion with a score of -6. He was closely followed by South African Louis Oosthuizen who ended in second place with a score of -4. This year, ‘King Louis’ will be joined by fellow South Africans Branden Grace, Christiaan Bezuidenhout, Erik van Rooyen and Dylan Frittelli. The odds on Sports Betting for the winner of the tournament are already available at Betway.
If the current odds are anything to go by, then the favourite to win is Scottie Scheffler who walked away with a superb win and the cherished green jacket with a score of -10 at the Masters earlier this month. Spain’s Jon Rahm is also right up there as a favourite, interestingly, with the same odds as Scottie… 12 to one! Irishman Rory McIlroy (who had a mind-boggling late charge at the Masters), Americans Collin Morikawa and Justin Thomas are all sitting at 15 to one. Louis Oosthuizen has the best odds out of all the South Africans at 41 to one. Christiaan Bezuidenhout is the next best South African bet at 110 to one. Next in the SA line-up are Branden Grace at 130 to one, Erik van Rooyen at 170 to one and Dylan Frittelli at 210 to one. Tiger Woods, who is making a comeback, is also set to play this year and the odds are 51-1 for him to take the trophy this year.
There’s a veritable feast of golf at this time of year. This weekend sees the PGA tour continue as it heads to the Vidanta Vallarta golf course for the Mexico Open which tees off on the 28th of April and finishes on the 1st of May. This competition boasts a purse of $7.3 million and sees one of the front runners for winning the US PGA Jon Rahm confirmed as one of the players that will be competing.
The U.S. Open, which takes place at the Country Club in Brookline Massachusetts, is set to take place a few weeks later on the 16th of June and the even more famous British Open on the 14th to the 17th of July. The latter will be back at St Andrews, the famous, historical links course which is seen as the ‘Home of Golf’.
