The Spanish great was only twenty years of age, and the win came in what we today call the Omega European Masters. He outlasted the Swede Anders Forsband by three strokes to claim the title.
This was of course just the beginning of a great career. The Spaniard would go on to win The Masters in 1994 and 1999, while also winning a handful of other tournaments on the PGA Tour. As a mainstay of the European Tour, he amassed a total of 30 professional wins and formed a formidable partnership with countryman Seve Ballesteros in the Ryder Cup.
