Johnny Farrell was born on this day in 1901, in White Plains, New York. Farrell won 22 times on the PGA Tour, including a run in 1926-27 that saw him win 11 tournaments along the Eastern seaboard.
Farrell scored an unforgettable victory at the 1928 US Open at Olympia Fields, near Chicago. He trailed Bob Jones by five strokes heading into the final round but forced a 36-hole playoff, which Farrell won on the final hole by draining a 7-foot birdie putt.
