Maximum score on any hole
A number of people are concerned that changes to the maximum score on any hole permitted for handicap purposes, introduced in February 2012, favour one handicap division over another.
However, the latest detailed scoring statistics, indicate the SAGA was right to introduced these changes to bring us more in line with international standards.
The stats show all handicap divisions are scoring effectively 36 stableford points or more, at a similar percentage of the time. Equally the table of exceptional scoring percentages shows that there is only a slight difference in the percentage of time that players from different handicap divisions score 39 or more points.
The period February to May has seen an increase in the handicap average for men from 16.01 to 16.25, and for women from 25.26 to 25.59. We will probably see a further but smaller increase over the next few months as scores by less regular golfers start to reflect in their handicaps.
iPhone Application
We are pleased to announce that the SAGA Golf iPhone App has been very well received, becoming the No 1 downloaded free application (with over 3 000 downloads) in its 1st week, and there has been an overwhelmingly positive response to the application.
The application can be downloaded FREE from the SA, US, UK or German App Store and enables iPhone users to enter hole-by-hole or adjusted gross scores directly into the SAGA Handicap system. Users can also search for any player’s handicap and handicap history. Non iPhones users will be able to get similar functionality soon, when our mobile phone website (Mobi site) goes live.
Entering scores on the terminal without your Handicap card
Many golfers are unaware you can enter a score on any terminal at any course without your handicap card – as you can on the Internet. Simply log on with your username and PIN/password.
To create a more easy to remember username and password,go to hna.openagency.co and click on the red “Login” button. Enter the Player ID and PIN (printed on your handicap card) as your username and password. You can personalise your login detals by clicking on the “Change Username” and “Change PIN” buttons.
Live Handicap SMS Updates
For a monthly subscription fee of only R5 golfers can receive a handicap update after each month-end calculation, as well as live updates of handicap changes during the month.
