Dear Golfer
This month, we are providing a refresher on the Registered Rounds Percentage (RR%) in order to clear-up some common misconceptions.
The World Handicap System (WHS) incorporates several control mechanisms to assist club handicap committees in maintaining accurate Handicap Indexes that truly reflect players’ abilities.
These procedures include Peer Review, which allows a player’s scoring record to be verified by fellow golfers and handicap committees, and the requirement that a round must be opened by the club (or player) before teeing-off.
In cases where a club fails to initiate a round prior to play, regardless of whether it’s for a member or a visitor, it becomes the responsibility of the golfer to Open the round themselves. Neglecting to do so will result in the round being flagged for subsequent review by the handicap committee.
What is the Registered Rounds Percentage (RR%)?
The RR% represents the percentage of the last 20 rounds registered on the system before a golfer commences play.
By tracking this percentage and displaying it openly on the system, handicap committees and tournament organisers can more easily identify players who may be manipulating their Indexes.
How do I register a round?
Rounds can be registered either personally or by the prop shop.
Ideally, your round should be opened by the pro shop attendant and this is the preferred method encouraged to clubs.
Should you wish to register the round personally, this can be done in one of the following ways:
- HNA Handicaps & Tournament App,
- the HNA website,
- the terminal at the club.
In order to register a round on the App, tap on the ‘Open Round’ button on the homepage and then enter your round details (see below). Please note that the responsibility lies with the player to ensure their rounds are registered before play.
Does my Registered Rounds % affect my Handicap Index?
No, it does not. The purpose of this feature is to assist the club handicap committee in identifying players whose low percentage might suggest manipulation of their Index.
When is the Registered Rounds % calculated?
The percentage is calculated at midnight each day, simultaneously with the daily Handicap Index computation.
How do ‘Foreign Rounds’, which can’t be opened, affect my percentage?
Foreign rounds are not factored into the Registered Round % calculation.
However, they can impact the total number of rounds used in the calculation. For instance, if you have played two out of your most recent 20 rounds at courses not featured in our system, only 18 rounds will be taken into account for the percentage calculation.
Quote of the Month
‘Golf is the closest game to the game we call life. You get bad breaks from good shots; you get good breaks from bad shots—but you have to play the ball where it lies.’ — Bobby Jones
