The new HNA Handicaps & Tournaments App has a number of exciting new features, including the ability to record fourball scores. This is aimed at reducing the need to record scores on the club scorecard for social rounds. It also calculates the type of competition scores for the most popular competition formats and the marker/scorer can submit all four Adjusted Gross Scores directly to the HNA Handicap system.
This month, we will take you step-by-step through the process of My Fourball scoring. My Fourball scoring forms part of the HNA Apps facility, where you can set up and run your own private competitions under the Events Tab. We will be taking you through the Events function next month, which is why some of the headings refer to issues related to competition scoring.
Creating your Fourball Event
First you need to download the HNA Handicaps and Tournaments App – this is available, for free, in iOS or Android format. You can download the App here.
To get started, sign in and then click on the My Fourball button on the dashboard.
1. This will open the pages seen in the images below – with iOS on the left and Android on the right.
The Event Name, Date and Holes are preselected. Only the date and time are editable. During setup it defaults to date and time created; to edit, tap the date and time and change accordingly.
Event Location: this is set to Single Club (all players play the same location).
Select the Host Club from the alphabetical list of all available clubs or use the search bar to locate it. Once you have the club, select the course and default tees for men and women. Players can change tees, if necessary, later in the process.
2. Event Format. This is set to Individual/Singles and cannot be edited.
Select your method of Prize Calculation (Competition Format) from the drop-down options.
3. All Parameters are preset and cannot be edited. The Player Limit refers to the maximum number of players that can participate in your tournament and is set to four. The Event will be set to Private, meaning the Event Organiser invites or enters all participants.
4. Once you have completed all the fields, tap on either Create (in iOS) or the red circle with white arrow (in Android). If these options aren’t available, please make sure you have completed all the fields correctly.
Now you are ready to start the entries, create your playing group and tee off. To add players, tap the … at the top of the screen (in iOS) or red circle with white plus (in Android). Select Add Players. Search for players, or you can add your Friends (if you are a Premium subscriber).
Tap Start Round, change tees if necessary, then select Next (in iOS) or the red circle with white arrow (in Android) to move to the scorecard. The App will automatically calculate your Course Handicaps and allocate strokes and net scores when you enter the gross scores on each hole in the scorecard.
