He is one of five golfers (along with Ben Hogan, Gary Player, Jack Nicklaus, and Tiger Woods) who have won all of the Major championships, a feat known as the Career Grand Slam. To make it even more special, he was the first to do so. He claimed the U.S. Open in 1922 and 1932; the PGA Championship in 1922, 1923, and 1933; The Open Championship in 1932; and the Masters Tournament in 1935.
He also invented the modern sand wedge, debuting the club (while keeping it secret during practice rounds) in the 1932 Open Championship at Prince’s Golf Club (which he won). He called it the sand iron, and the original club is no longer on display at Prince’s, as it is worth too much for the insurers to cover.
