The aim of the Calculated Rating (CR) used for Handicap purposes in South Africa, is to ensure that handicaps are not affected by weather conditions or course set up on a particular day. The CR calculation is similar to the Competition Stableford Adjustment (CSA) calculation used in many international countries.
The South African Golf Association (SAGA) and other international golf federations have had feedback that the CR/CSA calculations are still being affected, in some instances, by the range of handicaps applicable on a particular day. The European Union, are therefore currently further revising their Competition Stableford Adjustment calculation, especially with regard to the handicap ranges of scores entered. These changes will also be reflected in the revised CR calculation which will be introduced in South Africa in he near future.
Until the revised calculation has been implemented the variance in the CR calculation will be limited to a maximum range of -1 to +1.
