Thomas Bjørn was born on this day in 1971. With 14 European Tour victories to his name, he is the most successful Danish golfer to have played the game.
In 1997, he became the first Dane to qualify for a European Ryder Cup team, and in December 2016 was announced as the European captain for the 2018 Ryder Cup.
He is perhaps best remembered for his collapse at Royal St. George's during the 2003 Open Championship. He led by two strokes with three holes to play, but took three attempts to get out of a greenside bunker on the par three 16th, handing the tournament to American Ben Curtis.
