Danny Lee becomes youngest winner on European Tour

On this day in 2009, amateur Danny Lee of New Zealand became the youngest winner on the European Tour, claiming the Johnnie Walker Classic at the age of 18 years and 213 days.

His win bettered the record set by Dale Hayes of South Africa, who was 77 days older when he won the 1971 Spanish Open.

His record has since been improved on by Matteo Manassero, who won the 2010 Castelló Masters at the age of 17 years and 188 days.
