Curtis Strange Becomes the First Man to Earn more than $1 million in a Season

On this day in 1988, Curtis Strange became the first man to surpass $1 million in earnings in a single season on the PGA Tour.

He surpassed the mark when he won the $360 000 first prize in the Nabisco Championship (now the Tour Championship) at Pebble Beach. He beat Tom Kite on the second hole of a sudden-death playoff.
