Worsham holes out for eagle to win first nationally-televised event

On this day in 1953, Lew Worsham, winner of the 1947 US Open (see video below), holed a wedge from 123 metres for an eagle and a one-shot victory over Chandler Harper in the Tam O'Shanter World Championship of Golf, the first nationally-televised tournament in the US.

The tournament also boasted the first ever $100 000 purse, of which Worsham claimed $25 000, the biggest prize in golf at the time.
